Good times with wedding invitations
So, our latest wedding task is getting addresses for the save the date cards. Brian is sooo excited about this part, as shown in the following email to his friends...

Hello Everyone,
I am writing because I need your mailing addresses. Once I have those, I am going to send you a card that says “save the date – October 25th.” Then, after several more months I will send you another card (this one being much more expensive) saying “Brian and Naomi are getting married October 25th, would you like to come?” And then you will reply back using the card that was inside the card that was inside the extra envelope, checking “yes” or perhaps “no.” Only after spending thousands of dollars on stationary and postage will you be aware that there is a wedding going on (October 25th in case you forgot already) and hopefully I will also be aware of whether or not you are coming.
Wedding correspondence is a model of efficiency.
Thanks,
Brian

My favorite part is our website pitch at the bottom. I think I'll start including that in my email signature, so people are clear on where to go for the dets...

Um. I didn't get that email :(
Brian is hilarious.
I think that the hardest part of being married is planning the wedding, once you survive that, you can get through anything. Let the fun and games begin :)
We did think that planning the wedding was the hard part, now we think paying for them is.
Leslie let's not go that far... remember the only one who is allowed to be called "hilarious" on this blog is Naomi.
Oh, you're BOTH hilarious. That's why it's such a perfect match! Pure hilarity!
I think just about everything involved in the wedding process is overly tedious and DEFINITELY designed to sap your budget to the max. I waged my own mini protest by sending the email save the dates, and I have a friend that requested you just send an email instead of an official response card, but I think that's getting a bit too edgy for my fam.
And yes, totally use your website everywhere possible. Scott's mom seems to think that anyone who sees ours will assume they are invited and just show up at the wedding... which in theory could save us the trouble of invitations altogether!
Clearly Brian just doesn't understand--the invitation is so much more than just an invitation. It's the first impression your guests will get about what your wedding and you as a couple are all about. It sets the tone for the entire thing--formal invite: formal wedding, cute invite: cute couple and so on. Very very important and clearly worth many thousands of dollars ;)
Buy all your stamps now Naomi, the price of postage is going up and now you can still use the stamps after the postage goes up without buying the extra 1 cent stamps! What a deal! Mom
